Personal Statement:Jakob Anckarsvard is a painter and multimedia artist based in Stockholm and Glasgow.
Both the paintings and the installations etc have a direct and vivid approach with unconventional crossovers
coinciding with his theoretical background. Anckarsvard’s practice has many references to art history both
as an inspiration but morover it is constantly challanging the eras and styles that he is most repelled by.
The process however is closely linked to his previous studies in psychology and his history of having worked
in a diverse number of mental wards, with  refugees, street childr en, at heroin shelters etc. Many themes
related to this, come trough in Anckarsvard‘s artist practice.Despite or maybe rather because of these
“encounters” his work is rather optimistic, vivid, and open. Anckarsvard finds it interesting to investigate
obscure situations, “psychological disorders” in normal people, a social oddities,
ways of dealing with
perishableness etc, through experimental materials, assembling, and solutions, and sometimes manifest
them through a mythological language.
